CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A high temperature hydraulic oil hose that feeds a hot furnace in the processing of steel exploded, injuring three Filipino workers on Friday, June 24, an official of Sanjia Steel Corp. said on Monday.

Leo Liu, spokesman of the Sanjia Steel Corp., a Chinese steel manufacturing plant in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, belied reports that two of the Filipino workers had died in the accident.

"The rumors about the death of the two Filipino workers because of the explosion were fake," Liu told The Manila Times.

Liu identified the Filipino workers as Sintos Hilario, Janjan Butlig and Carl John Philip Galorio, who were a few meters away when the hydraulic oil hose exploded.

The three workers are now in stable condition, he said.

Liu claimed that the steel plant adopts all safety measures in line with the Philippine government laws and regulations.

Provincial Board Member Boboy Sabal, chairman of the provincial board's Committee on Environment, said he will conduct an investigation to determine if there was a violation or negligence on the part of Sanjia Steel Corp.

Sabal said that his committee received only "sketchy" reports about the alleged explosion in the steel plant Friday morning.

"We will invite stakeholders to shed light about the incident," Sabal said.

The P800 million steel manufacturing plant started its ground works structural development in the 22-hectare lot in the Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental in 2018.
